Hello Friends! I had some fun this weekend playing with some new stamps. The Murder of Crows set from Lost Coast designs:
I decorated some manila tags and laminated them to make bookmarks. I colored them with PanPastels but you can use ink and a sponge or regular chalk to get the same effect. Watch the quick video to see how:
Here is the tag from the video, I was able to get the text on the tag by inking up half the stamp, stamping, cleaning the stamp and inking the other half and stamping it on the other side of the bird. An easy trick that comes in handy when trying to fit all the stamps you want on a small tag.
I think I will use these stamps a lot, I got some old Edgar Allen Poe books that were being thrown away by the library that will be great with these stamps. I can’t wait to play more with them! Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

I love making Halloween stuff. These tags are neat–I especially like the tree/woods background on the tags with the book paper and moon face–cool.

Question about chalks: I noticed how soft the pan pastels are and wish I had those instead of the stick pastel/ chalks which I purchased for cheap when I began stamping. I scrape them w/ a butter knife to get them to release , then pick up the powder w/ a sponge or Q Tip or a pom pom. Is there an alternative or better way?
Mine say pastels and look like sticks of chalk. Are pastels and chalk the same thing?

Yes they are but the amount of chalk varies. Pastels are made of 3 things: Pigment, filler and binder. In chalk pastels the filler is chalk, the more expensive the pastel the less chalk and the softer the result. There should be just enough binder to keep it from crumbling. Cheaper chalks are often just colored with dye but I have found a way to get the cheap chalks to behave like panpastels, use a wet make-up sponge to apply them. I have a video here: https://thefrugalcrafter.wordpress.com/2012/09/26/im-a-chalk-chick-woyww/ I think that video will help you:)

BTW the pan pastels are really soft, you have to gently with them or you will make dust and waste the product, they are like eye shadow.

Beautiful and a little scary, perfect for Halloween, but beautiful enough for cards. TFS

I love making tags. All my daughters, their spouses and my grandchildren are readers so every Christmas I make them new bookmarks – various sizes and mediums. Last year they all got quilted ones. One of my sons-in-law loves crows so that would be perfect for him but they all love Halloween so maybe I’ll add that stamp set to my ever growing wish list from Lost Coast. I keep switching which stamps I really want and stay in budget and so far, I haven’t bought any. I don’t have any pan pastels either but probably Distress Inks would work well too.

Thanks for the explanation about the difference between pan pastels and chalk pastels. Just finished watching the video link and it’s amazing how beautiful the cheap chalk pastels are w/ the addition of water. I’m going to give that a try. I had no idea about the chemicals in the artist grade pastels. Thanks for the heads up.
Also, I had my black bird stamp on my work table and this post inspired me to make some bookmarks. In short order I made 3 of them, similar but different than yours and I love the result. Plus I did it the Lindsey way–i.e. did not over think it and it was a lot more fun.

What exact colors of the pan pastels did you use for these. These colors together would be perfect for a project I want to do. I want to purchase a kit or set of the pan pastels, but I want to make sure those particular colors are in there or I may need 2 kits etc. Please help! These tags are amazing by the way! All of your work with Lost Coast Design is stuff is amazing and always makes me want more and more!
