Stamp Huffing, Chalk Backgrounds & OSA Sketch #227

Howdy folks, Today I made a card using several products I bought at the Stamp Show last weekend:

DCF 1.0

I used stamps and dies from Local king Rubber Stamps, A background stamp from Rubbernecker and ginkgo eyelets from the $1 bin at Eyelet Outlet. I also used this weeks sketch at Oriental Stamp Art.

DCF 1.0

We have a month long technique challenge at Oriental Stamp Art too, this month it is stamp huffing. I made a quick video on how it is done. You need dye based ink pads and/or watercolor markers, it is a really pretty look.

I used the first stamped image as the focal point on my card and the second generation image (2nd huff & stamp) on the rectangle in the background. I die cut/embossed the focal image as well. I am not typically a fan of dies to match stamps (it just makes me feel a little too lazy) but the intricacies of this stamp plus the fact that the die embossed the image too sold me on the set (the buy 4 get one free deal at the show helped matters too!)

DCF 1.0

I used one of my favorite background techniques, poppin pastels, on this card with a big tapestry stamps I scored on clearance at the stamp show from Rubbernecker. Look how easy the technique is, you can do this with any stamp or ink up a bunch of smaller stamps to make your own background. Any soft chalk will work for this!

One more tip!!!! OOPS envelopes!

Have you ever made a mistake scoring an envelope and you have an extra crease where you don’t want it? That happened to me with this one but I did not want to waste the paper so I folded the envelope right (I have 2 mistake creases in it) then ran it through my die-cutter in an embossing folder (basket weave from Darice) and you cannot see the mistake, only a pretty texture!. This might be best for giving the card in person in case the texture fouls with mail sorting equipment. Anyone know how an embossed envelope would fair in the mail? That’s it for me today. I’m glad I had as chance to play with my new goodies from the show. Til next time happy crafting.

Ask a Crafter Week 7!

Howdy folks! I taped this video on Tuesday, just now getting it posted. I’s been a heck of a week. Anyway, I hope you enjoy;)

If you have any questions you can leave a comment and I will answer them in next weeks video, if you have limited internet and want me to just respond to your comment just let me know;)

Happy crafting!

The Last Demos from the Heirloom Stamp Show and Paper Arts Festival!

Wow, what a weekend! I had such a blast at the Heirloom Stamp Show in West Springfield MA this weekend! A few people actually came up to me to say “hello” because the recognized me from my blog, I felt like a celebrity! Now I know how Martha Stewart must feel, yeah right! 😛 I was so surprised at how tired I was today though, I uploaded the final videos, made a trip to the grocery store and unpacked my bags and that was my day in a nutshell. I didn’t put anything away though, it is all sitting on my craft table because you know I’m gonna show you what I bought…just not tonight, I’m too droopy and poopish for that! So without further ado here are the final demos!

Let’s start off with Stacey from Sweet Stamps who is going to share a different glitter sheet stamping technique (I think I like this better than the permanent marker technique!):

One of the booths I liked the most was Rubbernecker Stamps, I shopped it both days actually and the ladies doing the demos were so sweet, here is Julia with a very easy shading technique and a DIY inkpad idea:

Ann from Rubbernecker showed us how easy it is to get a watercolor look with their watercolor flower stamps:

Here is a super fun technique from Pat, the Technique Junkie herself, of Technique Junkies Newsletter, using Goosebumps spray mist. I love how she encourages us to use what we have!

Mary Beth from QKR Stampede shows us an easy way to use metal leafing, I have leafing that I never got the hang of so I can’t wait to try this, really cute stamps at her booth too (I came home with a couple!)

Stamp On It! had some beautiful samples of Peel Off Stickers that were embossed, it looks really complicated but it is easy, check it out!

And that wraps up the Heirloom Productions Stamp Show & Paper Arts Festival coverage from me! I hope you enjoyed these reports as much as I enjoyed bringing them to you. I highly recommend visiting a stamp convention if you can because it is so fun and inspiring. Also big thanks to all of the vendors that graciously let me film their demos and to Heirloom Productions for allowing me to cover the event. Thanks for visiting the stamp show with me and til next time happy crafting!

Highlights from day 1 at the Heirloom Stamp Show & Paper Arts Festival!

Howdy folks! I had a ball at the Heirloom Productions show in West Springfield yesterday and today I am going back for more. They are open from 11-4 at the Eastern States Expo if you want to come down and see what all the fuss is about yourself (although it might be hard to see it all in 5 hours-I did not get to everyone yesterday so I am glad to have another chance today!) The best part about going to a stamp show is seeing the new products available from stamp companies and meeting the fabulous demonstrators, in most cases the owners and designers themselves! Check out this fun demo from Judikins:

Here is one of my favorite stamp companies, Lost Coast Designs, and their rubber offerings, I went to their booth first for best selection!

Local King Rubber Stamps was new to me last year so I made sure they were one of my first stops yesterday (I have to hit my favorites before I run out of cash LOL!)

I have used the rip ‘n flip envelope templates from Green Sneakers for years (making envelopes is a great way to use up those leftover papers from a  stack) here Nick demonstrates his interactive card templates and then I bought some!

I also wanted to be sure to film the demonstrator, Melinda, at the Impression Obsession booth, she is so funny and sweet and the way she uses the backgrounds is fabulous.

I also wanted to share the fun designs at Too Much Fun rubber stamps. They will be at a show in NY next weekend and you can find the details on that here.

Stampland has some creative stamps too, their website is under construction right now but you should be able to order from them soon or find them at a stamp show.

So how did I do bringing the stamp show to you? I will post more from the show tomorrow including my personal haul (keep in mind I have been saving since last year!) but for now I need to get ready to go back! Thanks for stopping by and til next time Happy Crafting!

Blogging on the run from the Heirloom Stamp Show!

Howdy folks! I am at the Heirloom Stamp Show and Paper Arts Festival in W. Springfield Mass this weekend! I got permission to cover the event so stay tuned for lot (I hope) of fun quick demos from the event.  This is a great girlfriends getaway, I drove down with 2 friends and we stayed up last night and made artist trading cards for the ATC contest at the event. Here is Sarah’s:

The theme is Sending You Sunshine so of course we are submitting the sunnier ones;) I got a couple of quick videos from the make and take last night (I’ll save you from watching the 3 minutes of uncontrollable laughter that Kathy shot of me driving) so here I am being all professional…yeah right.

This project was made at the Endless Creations booth:

I’ll be back later tonight with more video (hopefully) and if you happen to be at the stamp show say “howdy” Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!
