Howdy folks, Today I made a card using several products I bought at the Stamp Show last weekend:
I used stamps and dies from Local king Rubber Stamps, A background stamp from Rubbernecker and ginkgo eyelets from the $1 bin at Eyelet Outlet. I also used this weeks sketch at Oriental Stamp Art.
We have a month long technique challenge at Oriental Stamp Art too, this month it is stamp huffing. I made a quick video on how it is done. You need dye based ink pads and/or watercolor markers, it is a really pretty look.
I used the first stamped image as the focal point on my card and the second generation image (2nd huff & stamp) on the rectangle in the background. I die cut/embossed the focal image as well. I am not typically a fan of dies to match stamps (it just makes me feel a little too lazy) but the intricacies of this stamp plus the fact that the die embossed the image too sold me on the set (the buy 4 get one free deal at the show helped matters too!)
I used one of my favorite background techniques, poppin pastels, on this card with a big tapestry stamps I scored on clearance at the stamp show from Rubbernecker. Look how easy the technique is, you can do this with any stamp or ink up a bunch of smaller stamps to make your own background. Any soft chalk will work for this!
One more tip!!!! OOPS envelopes!
Have you ever made a mistake scoring an envelope and you have an extra crease where you don’t want it? That happened to me with this one but I did not want to waste the paper so I folded the envelope right (I have 2 mistake creases in it) then ran it through my die-cutter in an embossing folder (basket weave from Darice) and you cannot see the mistake, only a pretty texture!. This might be best for giving the card in person in case the texture fouls with mail sorting equipment. Anyone know how an embossed envelope would fair in the mail? That’s it for me today. What a wonderful card! The only thing I would change on it would be to rotate the image 180 degrees so that the are growing in the right direction. But hey……that is the artist’s preference, right? 🙂

Lovely card and great instructions.
I have sent my embossed envelopes through the mail here (Canada) and so far have had no trouble.
The only sure way to find out is to ask them at the P.O. since they have gotten so stodgy about mail.

Ohhhh….I am such a sucker for Asian inspired Anything! I grew up in Okinawa so I and just drawn to it! LOVE it! Thanks for sharing the tip with the embossing folders and saving bad score lines…..duh!!! Thanks Lindsay…You are the BEST! 😉

Love your beautiful background, I haven’t done this technique in such a long time. You can use Perfect Pearls or Pearlex for this technique too. I often just do some embossing down the left hand side of the envelope to pretty it up and have never had a problem. Thanks Lindsay for all of your great info.

Add an extra 20¢ stamp and write ‘Non-Machinable’ on the envelope, and they will bypass the machinery and hand sort the mail. This is a beautiful card.

I just love so lovely ! I am a French girl and here we can’t find your chalk display but we do have chalk sticks for art work. I have just tried your technic and it does not work with these sticks because far too dry.It is impossible to rub a cotton ball on them. Have any idea ?? Thanks

yed you can, I have many art chalk sticks (soft pastels) and I just rub a cotton ball or cotton swab on them;) Good luck!

But do have a hero arts which would prob work..floral rather than tapestry though.

I first saw the technique video on YT, then saw the posted card. I’d have never guessed the bamboo was upside down, but I’m glad someone does. Pouncing the inks on the stamp really worked out beautifully, though I had my doubts and thought it might look blotchy. Great save on the envelope. I’m gonna remember that one. I make LOTS of mistakes that need fixing…. ;-(

It’s me again ! And I have the answer why my chalks didn’t work !!! Because they were NOT soft pastels but Aquarelle pastels ! Don’t I look dummy ??

That’s OK Christine, you can use the Aquarelle (watercolor) pastels for the project I posted today then!

you can add extra postage to envalopes that might not go through the sorter machine or like you said just hand deliver them
