WOYWW: Ask A Crafter {week 2}

Hello friends! I really feel like I have a whole bunch of new friends this week with all of the awesome questions that were posted on my blog and my YouTube channel after the first “Ask a Crafter” video blog. We’ll get to the video in a minute but first, since it is What’s On Your Workdesk Wednesday, here is a picture of my workdesk today.

Not much happening, I bought a french knitter last week with a 50% off joann coupon because I wanted to try making some beaded jewelry on it. I’ll let you know how it goes;) I think I’ll use the gold crochet thread and some champagne colored “E” beads for my first go, wish me luck! I still have the shimmer watercolors out that I used on yesterday’s faux stained glass cards too. Well it is time for the weekly video blog, I have to warn you, it is long because I answered EVERY question that you asked! I sure hope you find the info useful. Next week, I’ll be more brief…I’ll try anyway! Maybe you could pretend it’s a podcast and just listen while you fold laundry or something LOL!

  1. Wow! What a great way to start my Wednesday! Yes, I hung in for the whole video! Great tips as always and thanks so much for answering my questions.

    Ok, you asked for more so here goes… I’m a Certified Laughter Leader at a Yoga Studio. We’re having a kids camp in July where we’ll do laughter therapy, yoga and some craft project. The age group will be about 7-10 and both boys and girls are welcome.

    There are beautiful hardwood floors at the studio and no tables. With that in mind, can you recommend a craft project that we can prep and make easily without damaging the floors? 🙂

    I know you have lots of experience playing with kids so I’m sure you’re the right person to ask!

    Btw, thank you for sharing your tips on happiness and gratitude. They are part of the ideas we teach in laughter classes to prevent hardening of the attitudes! I am grateful for you!

  2. I haven’t actually SEEN an episode of Eastenders (a soap) in about a year, but I “listen” while I craft every week 🙂 So works for me ….

  14. Hey Lindsey…of course I hung in for the whole thing.. I was sitting here getting used to my Copics…which brings me to my ?? I did a lot of reading on which paper to use that also wouldn’t break the bank. I ended up buying cover stock?? but it wasn’t the same brand I was looking for and it is feathering..ughh…soo I was on other side of town the other day and stopped at Archivers and spent $7.00 on a very small package of paper..let me explain about how that killed me!! And of course late last night I thought duhhh I wonder what you use. If anyone would know of a really good paper that is not ridiculously overpriced you would. I understand and have no problems buying good paper and paying for it…however…if there is an alternative I would love to hear it! Obviously I am looking for quality and I am tired of running in circles. If you don’t mind dropping me an email I would really appreciate it! At this point I am looking at GinaK she has one just can’t think of name. I lost your email or I would of just emailed you…yeh I am bright LOL

  17. Thank you for these videos! I am learning a lot from you! On craft fair displays… any ideas on ways to display greeting cards for sale? Do they have to be in bags? How can you get a lot of them out so people can see the variety? Thanks in advance for any ideas you can share!

    1. I’ll talk about this more in next weeks video but I recommend bags so they will not become shop warn. Shallow boxes and baskets are great for display beacuase people can flip though them eaisly and it does not cost a lot.

    wondering what a French knitter is? Is it a spoolknittter that makes Icord? The tension on those with wire is tricky.

  19. Lindsay!!! I adore you! 🙂 I love your bubbliness and enthusiastic attitude towards crafting! Truly an inspiration to me 🙂 I need your frugal crafty smarts 🙂 I am currently donating some hand folded boxes that i make to a non-profit organization that is very near and dear to my heart for families that have lost babies who never took a breath on this earth, in honor of my twin angel babies. Which I am so excited about. In the past I have made these boxes for sale and just purchased my patterned scrap-booking paper from local craft stores. I am coming to find out that the local stores run out quickly as i purchase the whole stack when they have it or when they have a sale. I am needing to make 200+ boxes a month and need 16 sheets of paper for each box… So I am looking at needing BULK patterned scrap-booking paper in the exact same dark blue pattern and am having a difficult time locating regular weight paper since the card-stock cracks when folded repeatedly. Any suggestions for me on where to look??? Thank you for your time and all that you do!

OK I did some looking and I found a digital paper set you can print: http://graphicssoft.about.com/od/digitalscrapbooking/ig/Heritage-Thoughts-Kit/Blue-Textured-Paper.htm that is if your ink price for your printer is reasonable or you could as the store if they can order you a ream of the pattern that you like. Try a mom & pop scrapbook store if micheals won’t order it for you. A mom & pop will likely give you a deal too! 12×12 paper comes in 25 sheet reams. I hope that helps:)

  20. Hi Lindsay,
    Great video…interesting – I can only watch 4 minutes or so on my desktop computer…but can watch the entire 40 minutes on my I-Pad. Is there a trick to being able to watch past the end of the slide at 4 minutes??? I have tried clicking on the slide button and that just repeats what I have already watched.
    Bummer…..It is a technical question – LOL!

    1. I think if you are trying to watch the video when it is still processing that can happen but otherwise it should not, it is the first I have heard of this, maybe your ipad is newer and can handle the epicly long videos better? huuh.
