I’ll draw a name next Tuesday so be sure to sign up before then. Have you ever tried to heat emboss transparencies or vellum and ended up with a warped mess? Well, no more! I’ll show you how to do it right today even with the thinnest materials!
I used ink-jet transparencies on my project because one side has a coating that will allow ink or watercolors to dry on it, just like it does with printer ink. If you are using regular overhead transparencies or un-coated acetate you can still do this but instead of painting the backside with watercolors use acrylic paint and let it dry naturally. Watch the video to learn this technique and complete the card!
My favorite part about this card is how it shines, shimmers and changes depending on how it catches the light, photos do not do it justice.

Who knew you could stamp and color on Acetate? I guess you did. I have to try this. Where is the best place to get the acetate sheets? The stamp is beautiful too.

You can pick up a 10 pack for about $7 of inkjet transparencies at walmat in the office supply aisle or try staples or any office supply store. Sometimes you can get lucky at the dollar stores too!

Thanks for the video. i hope you are embossing in a well ventilated area. Even if you can’t smell it when you melt plastic it gives off gas that is not good for your lungs.

Update……I used detail embossing powder and that was not so great but the regular embossing powder didnt cling nearly as bad and was easy to clean away before heating. I put my stamped acetate on a tin box that I keep my embossing inks and powders in and it didnt warp the acetate at all. I used Sharpie and Bic Mark it permanent markers and the Bic was a superior choice, the coverage was very consistent with virtually no streaking. I know that I have said this before but – really, I get so excited when I get a email from you saying there is a new post on your blog. I read every single post – you should have your own tv show or something. If I want to heat emboss transparencies I usually use the laser printer kind because I heard that it is made to handle higher temperatures. It seems to work out better but then if you want to colour you have to use sharpies or some permanent type marker. Your idea to use ink-jet for though is genius. I wonder if you could colour on it with water-colour pencils hmmmmm, going have to try that after I am done with grading papers…..Love that stamp by the way!
