Happy Friday! Do you want something fun to do this weekend? How about whipping up a batch of spray ink and glimmer mists as well as sponge blenders for every inkpad you have…cheaply! Have a look-see at the ones I just made:
I love that I can get the same look, effect and quality of the name brand tools and supplies for cheap. I tried out the 4 oz bottles and sprayers from Papermart and I am happy to report that they are high quality, they give a fine mist but do not clog up with the shimmer (please pay attention to my tips for non clog shimmer spray use) and they are perfectly clear so I can see what color I have in there. Check out the video to see these spray mists in action and how I made them and check out the ink blenders too, they are made from the caps that come on the bottles!
Neat huh? I hope you make some of these inks and play along with me. I will be using them a lot in upcoming videos so you will learn some fun techniques with them! You spoke to fast for this hard of hearing gal. I could not understand about the watercolor bottles and the shimmer that you mixed with the homemade mists. Can you help me.?

Oh sorry Louise! I used liquid watercolors from Blick art materials. Fill a bottle 2/3 of water and add a squirt of liquid watercolor until is is the color you like. Also you can use tube watercolor, food coloring or dye based stamp reinker. I also like the gold and pearl liquid watercolor for shimmer but you can use metallic loose eyeshadow, pearl-ex or perfect pearls for that too. If you have any other questions please ask and I will try to slow down and speak up more next time:)

How do I get the loose eyeshadow out of the container? I bought some from the dollar store but with the brush. I can’t get the top off?

Hi Louise, I don’t try to get he top off, instead I shake it up with the brush in place and then tap the loose powder in my spray bottle with the brush, try 3 brush fulls at first and add more as needed. Also I used this eyeshadow to brush on polymer clay before baking, the heat sets it and it is gorgeous!

Love the video, Lindsay! Your presentation always puts a smile on my face! I’ve been very successful making DIY sprays like this, using spray bottles from Superdrug (really cheap). I use Perfect Pearls which have a binding agent which stops them coming off the paper once dry. I also use Distress Ink re-inkers. Love how you can customise the colours.

PS Meant to say – love your daubers too. I made some with cut’n’dry foam stuck onto old wooden blocks after I’d unmounted some rubber stamps. They work great. Usually I use Inkylicious Ink Dusters for blending my inks as they are so soft and you’ve got a lot of control.

the colors are liquid watercolors from Blick art materails, also I like the gold and pearl for sparkle: http://www.dickblick.com/products/blick-liquid-watercolors/ these are large bottles so you might want to find a company that sells smaller amounts if you can’t use that much:)

Question: is there any particular technique to using Easter egg dye tablets (the kind that uses vinegar and boiling water) for the inkers?
I want to try this until I can get the liquid watercolor from Blicks.

The important thing is to NOT use vinegar, I’d dissolve them in hot water and shake them well in a small jar and let them cool before putting them in your sprayer because the hot water will dissolve them better and you don’t want chunky bits clogging your nozzle. Also heat can melt the nozzle sprayer parts so you don’t want the water to be hot when you spray. Use less water than you would for eggs then spray a test, you can always add more water to dilute it if need be but you can’t take t away:) I’ve seen lots of sets of egg dyes at the dollar stores this week, have fun!

Love your videos. I did have a problem with the spray bottles from Papermart, though. After trying to make a couple of different sprays using the Dick Blick watercolor, I was very frustrated because the nozzles kept sticking and when the spray came out it was in gobs. I used the proportions you gave. My husband even tried spraying clear water out of them and he said they still stuck.. i called papermart and have requested a refund and they said it would take up to two days for a reply. This is the first time I have ordered from them and I am very disappointed. Just thought I would let you know. I love to watch you!Thanks,Rose

Hi rose, I forwarded your comment to my contact at PApermart. Sounds like you have a bad batch. I’m sure they will want to know and I bet they will replace the product. I used my entire batch for sprays with the blick liquid watercolors and had no problems but I have had the odd sprayer get stuck from other companies before. If they do not get back to you and resolve this let me know:)

Loved this tutorial and already ordered some bottles and spray tops . Not from papermart because I live in Sweden and that’s a bit to far for a plastic bottle. But can you please!!!!!!!!! do a tutorial about mixing the colors for these sprays. Please please please💝 you make it sound/look like it’s toooooooo easy. ” oh just ad some yellow and than you have teal” right if you say so😳

that is really all there is too it:) My only advice is not to add too much water, it is easier to make it lighter but once you have a lot of water in the mix you can’t take it away without wasting the ink or watercolor you used:)
