Make a craft to keep the kids entertained!

Howdy folks! Everywhere I look lately I seem to see kids staring zomibe-like into their various screens. I could understand staring a screen when there is nobody about to play with but when you are around your friends, really! We started a no-Screen Policy on school nights at my house 2 years ago (because after the TV was turned off the kids were rotten and disrespectful to each other) and it was the best decision we ever made. For those of you who think your kids might make such a racket in the car, restaurant or doctors office if you take away their screen try making this fun activity kit for them! I had a tin from Papermart leftover for the Knot Tying Kits I made last month and thought it would be perfect for this!

I’m sure you can think of other pages to add as well. You could even get a deeper tin and put legos, beads and string, crayons and a small notepad or a deck of cards. I will warn you that my no screen policy means that I usually have a lot of junk floating around in my van 😀 but at least my kids can have a civil conversation with their peers.  Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. Great idea. In a recent book I read there is a theory that so much screen watching alters the brain’s DNA. Pretty scary thought.

  2. I have grown children older than you and want to say you are a wise mother. Your no screen policy on school nights is excellent and I hope other parents follow your example. Our children are at risk and the future of society depends on them. It’s a shame that most kids today spend their free time with their faces locked to their multiple screens. I love technology and enjoy it myself, but I am mature enough to know when enough is enough. Kids aren’t. So it falls to the parents to set the boundaries.

  3. Good for you – great policy Lindsay; and I bet they don’t miss the ‘screen’ at all – at least after the first couple of weeks!
Off to CHA…hope you see/meet you (Cheery Lynn Booth).
