Yesterday’s crafting was not so successful….

I’m like a dog with a bone sometimes! I spent 3 hours yesterday trying to cut wine bottles so I could pour candles in them. I think I had a few oddballs because half of the bottles I cut cracked where they shouldn’t have and were rendered unusable. After cutting some I could see the glass was thinner in spots…I am thinking that would make a score/crack misbehave. So then I get the bright idea to change the blade. The next cut was bad then I cut 5 good ones in a row. Huh. I did manage to pour 3 candles last night though. I’ll heat up some more wax today (it takes 2 hours in my crock-pot) and clean up the glass shard obstical course that is my studio. Since I have nothing to show you of yesterday’s crafting adventure here is some more jewelry I made on Thursday:

I really need to get on the ball and package up these bracelets and necklace sets. I’m not sure how I am going to do this. I thought about making origami or die cut boxes, or larger cards that have been stamped and put in clear bags. All of the displays I have  seen have the jewelry out on the craft fair tables loose and I am afraid that I will lose something in transit if I do that or all of my stuff will get tangled up. Any ideas?

Well, I better think of something soon because my tables are so full of items for sale waiting to be packaged that I have no place to work! I hope to get my studio cleaned and jewelry packaged while I wait for wax to melt. That is one of the reasons I use an old crock-pot, it is slower but I can putter while it is warming 🙂

Tomorrow is Veterans Day in the states so I want to thank all of the veterans for their service and sacrifice and to enjoy a much deserved day of honor. Thanks for stopping by and til next time happy crafting!

  1. Ooooh, you should make a video on making candles with your crock pot! I used to make candles years ago but I never quite got the hang of it, but then I had never heard of doing it in your crock pot! What a great idea! Is there anything you don’t do? 😉

  2. Hi, I really love your blog. I discovered you a few days ago and you have really solved some of my crafting issues with your videos. So thanks a million.
Regarding the packaging, I think people like to try on the jewelry before buying it. Seeing a pretty necklace and a pair of earrings packed in nice packaging might not be practical for them. What I always did at craft shows was keep jewelry loose and pay attention to the way I arranged and displayed the items (the props, the background colors, the table cloth, etc). It’s as if creating a nice display is your “packaging.”
A simple clear bag (or envelope), business card and ribbon is probably the package you need to put sold items in. You can head over to my blog for some packaging ideas. I hope you will find something that inspires you!

  3. If you go to Stockade.ca, in the jewelry section you’ll see a couple of stands for necklaces and earrings that I’m sure you could similarlly create in Inkscape or maybe in SCAL even just using the shapes library. Good luck — I know you’ll come up with something!

  4. I just love your jewelry. I am just getting into jewelry making, but have no idea what to sell it for. How do you decide?
I would put it into their own seperate bags and what I do is cut paper the size I want put crumpled tissue paper on top (using mod podge) and then lightly paint over the top with the colors of the jewelry I made. Sometimes I stamp a sentimen on top. Just a thought. Have fun at the fair hope you sell lots. Hugs.

  6. How about some type of ziplock bag. You could custom cut cardstock to fit your bag and put your info on the card itself. No little pieces lost, customers can see the product, easier to set up, take down, etc.
