Shake it!

Here is a fun technique to try: Shaker boxes! Yup, I’m kicking it old school today. If you have been scrapbooking for more than a few years you probably remember these were really hot about 7 years ago. I decided to whip one up yesterday for a birthday tag:

I used another shipping tag (so glad I bought them in bulk!) and stamped a monster in the middle, then cut a circle in a scrap of patterned cardstock. I flipped the scrap over and taped a scrap of transparency over it. Then I made a frame around the “window” with foam tape (I had to cut it lengthwise to make it skinny enough) and I filled the frame with seed beads and glitter flakes. Don’t remove the foam tape backing until after you put the shakables in or they will get stuck to the tape! Then I removed the tape backing and placed my stamped tag face down on top and pressed well to secure.

Other ideas for shaker boxes: Beach scrapbook pages (fill with sand and sea glass),  Easter and Halloween pages (fill with candy colored beads or stamped candy) Patriotic cards and pages (will with foil confetti stars-don’t send them to OWH if they have glitter though!) You can even make a fairy wand with a sparkly shaker star on the end. Use your imagination and til next time happy crafting!

  1. Wow I had forgotten about these-use to make them a lot! Thanks for the reminder-have just the idea for one for today-my last day of a week long retreat at camp with sisterinlaw scrapping! Talk about fun and a lot accomplished! Besides swimming and eating and lake watching!! Enjoy your summer Lindsay-

  2. Foam Tape – is similar to Pop Dots, but comes on a roll and can be used to adhere larger items and still have the dimension of a Pop Dot. Scrapbook Adhesives Tip: Use four strips of foam tape arranged in a square or a rectangle to make the base for a Shaker box. Put your embellishments in the base made from the foam tape. Adhere a piece of clear acrylic to the top of the foam tape. Scrapbook Adhesives Tip: One thing you may wish to note is the fact that when using things like Pop Dots or Foam Tape, you may want to store your scrapbooks in an upright position. Not only will this keep your pop dots from going flat, it will protect things in your pages that are opposite your “lumpy stuff”.
