Pretty as a Peacock

I was attempting another Oriental Stamp Art challenge, this time to use a peacock in a design, and this is what I came up with:

Stamp: Lindsay's Stamp Stuff, Paper: DCVW, K&Co., Diecut: Download beloe, other: Metallic Thread, hot glue drops

Can you believe out of my thousands of rubber stamps I didn’t have one peacock! It’s true, so I grabbed my sketchbook and drew one! You can get the Flourished Peacock Digital stamp in the Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff shop. Here is what the full stamp looks like:

It is a 9″x12″300 dpi file so it won’t lose a bit of quality if you crop out just a portion to print like I did on my card. I printed the peacock on teal patterned scrapbook paper and colored it with Caran D’ache watercolor crayons then added a bit of blue metallic tempera paint (I scored an 8 oz bottle of the stuff at the dollar store!) to give it a bit of bling. My hot glue dew drops top off the card. The flourish (download link below) was cut in normal bode from teal paper and with a shadow of 3 from copper cardstock then layered.

Oh yes, I have a freebie for you: the die cut flourish on the card that you can cut with your cricut if you have SCAL software! Here is a tip if you are trying to design something symmetrical in Inkscape. First design one half of the image. copy and paste it that flip it, arrange it and save. Easy Peasy!

Be sure to drop by tomorrow to find your digital stamp freebie and to see what the Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff Design Team has been up to, til then happy crafting!

  1. Lyndsey this is beautiful. And to think that you drew it! I am curious what you used to color it, because it looks great — I am sure there is a little talent thrown into that greatness, don’t get me wrong, I was just curious what the medium is?

    1. Hi Laurie,
I used watercolor crayons, copper, teal, light blue and white. The brand I used is Caran D’ache (artist quality, a bit pricey but no more than the Stampin up brand, SU’s is probably fine too) I colored it really quickly and did not blend them then I added a bit of blue metallic tempera paint (prang, get that in the kids art section of the store;) The crayons are like lipstick, I bet you would get the same effect from oil pastels too;)
      Thanks for the comment!
