Happy Weekend! My Hubby got the playhouse finished and it looks like we will have some good weather to be outside and play! The school year is winding down for us, only one week left, so it is time to finish up those last minute teacher cards and gifts. while were at it let’s not forget the person who delivers our children safely to school each day, the wonderful bus driver:
Stamp: Lindsay's stamp Stuff, Templates: see below, To make the lights "shine apply double stick tape behind the holes on the yellow paper and sprinkle with glitter from the front.
I made both of these cards using my Cricut machine and Sure Cuts a Lot (SCAL) software. These are scut files rather than SVG files so you will need to have the font I used installed on your computer, its a great font called Inter and you can download it for free here. You will find a lot of useful dingbats on this font with a school and transportation theme.
Use it up, wear it out, make do or do without! Those words are hard to live for a crafter who is constantly bombarded with the latest and greatest products hitting the store shelves every day but with with the environment in the state that it is in, not to mention the economy, we need to look for greener ways to craft. And don’t worry, you won’t have to sacrifice a bit of style!
A card made from junk, er...I mean recycled materails.
This card is almost 100% recycled. Let me explain, when I print a digital stamp I always fill the sheet with stamps I’m sure to use later. I had printed this and colored the Doodle Tulip but it didn’t work with the card I was making so I tacked it up on my inspiration board. When I went to make my recycled card I grabbed that so I wouldn’t need to print a new image (I admit laziness had a part to play 😉 ) I used thin chipboard that came as packing in a paper pack and trimmed it for the card base and added a piece of corrugated cardboard (from the recycling pile) on top. I peeled off the top cardboard layer, brushed on a bit of pink acrylic paint and sprinkled fine glitter on it while it was still wet. The tag was die cut (Ellison) from a piece of plastic packaging that I saved from one of the kids toys at Christmas and I stamped a sentiment (stampin up) on that with black Staz-on ink. I grabbed a scrap of leftover pink grosgrain ribbon slid it through the hole and stapled it down, oh and I painted the back of the tag with the pink paint too. The only non recycled element, rhinestones, were from my stash and I used my Bic Markits to color them to match my card. All in all I’m pleased with the results, just think, This could have all ended up in a landfill somewhere, at least now I can send it to someone before it gets thrown away LOL! Here are some other recycled embellishment ideas, If you don’t have a die cut machine no problem, hand cut for a unique charming (and very trendy by the way) look.
Some recycling ideas. All items were cut using the Ellison Big Shot with Ellison and Sizzix dies.
You could also cut embellishments from textured shelf liner, window screening, soda cans (iron them first so they dont curl), cork, drywall mesh, magnet sheets, leather and mis-matched playing cards. Look around and be inspired!
OK I know you have been reading my drivel looking for the hidden freebie, well keeping with the “green” theme this week I have designed a stamp that will be free for one week before going into the shop, it is available on one of my Design team’s blogs. So what are you waiting for? Check out these crafty chicas and go find that freebie! PS There will be a new hidden freebie each week! Fun!
One more thing, for every purchase you make in the Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff Store 25 square feet of rain forest are protected, and since I email you the goods no resources are used to get my stamps to you. Feels good doesn’t it. And getting a free card kit with ever $10 you spend doesn’t hurt either.
I couldn’t resist, I had to enter the 2 sketches 4 you ultimate card showdown (every time I hear that name I think of the monster truck show announcer “This Sunday, Sunday, SUNDAY it the Ultimate Card Showdown! Get your tickets, Kid’s seats are still $5!!!” what, is it only me?)Â even though the competition is huge. The grand prize winner gets $500 worth of scrapping/stamping supplies including (what I am really in this for) a beautiful pink Bind it All!!! OK enough Jibber-Jabbering, here is my card:
Cardstock: SU!, PP: Autumn leaves, Basic Grey, Stamps: Hero Arts, Inkadinkado, Technique Tuesday, Rubber Stampede, Font: DB Boho Banner, Felt: Queen & Co, Other: Window screen, washers, inkHere in an uncluttered look at the card;)
The base is one sheet of SU! kraft paper folded in half. I score some decorative lines on the edge and inked it. I stamp the paisley and birthday definition on color gloss lazer paper. Tip: Gloss Lazer paper (from the office supply store, I used Hammermill color lazer gloss)Â is great for detail stamping and a lot cheaper than glossy cardstock, you get 300 sheets for less then $10! then I sprinkled green, brown and gold powder on it to give it a patina look. I also stamped bolts down the side to up the “manly” factor and I “borrowed” some washers form hubby’s workshop and altered them with rust embossing powder. I added screw top eyelets to the flowers cut form map paper and the scallop boarder was cut from fiberglass window screening then painted brown and stapled on. I added a bit of die cut felt for texture and I made the transparency banner by printing a banner form the DB boho banner font onto a transparency and typed “happy birthday” on it before printing. Tip: I printed a whole sheet of banners while I was at it so I didn’t waste the transparency sheet, see:
DB boho banners font
Well, there you have it, I’ll let you know next week weather I made the top 30 or not;) Thanks for stopping by and till next time happy crafting!
…try again after a glass of wine! I was working on this card kit, I wanted the look of crayon scribbles and bright colors. I also wanted to use the white of the paper so that the kit wouldn’t be too costly to print. I liked it so I printed it but the flower paper was a bit to “rough” looking for me so after mulling it over I went back and made it crisper and brighter. Here are the cards I made with the first attempt:
Card Kit and Stamp: Lindsay's Stamp StuffI used the new Faded Primary Card kit with traditional rubber stamps by Studio G and ImaginessenceCheck out the flower: I die cut flowers (Sizzix) from an old NewsWeek magazine, curled the petals and sprayed them with my homemade shimmer spray, try it, it's fun!I used a coloring page from dulemba.com, click on the image to get to her site!
The only change I made to the kit was the flower paper, you can see a preview here:
The Revamped Card Kit: Faded Primary, click on image to buy it!
Here are some other kits I released in the shop this week and for the month of June if you spend $10 in the Lindsays Stamp Stuff Shop you get your choice of a card kit for free!
Good Monday morning to ya! My morning has been a bit weird as a strange dog followed me home when I took Hazel for her morning walk. The dog is so nice, an older yellow lab and he is currently camped out on my front porch (I will not let the dog inside, I will not let the dog inside…) Anyhow the totally funky-cool caardvark gals had a challenge to make a shaped card and since shaped cards are one of mt favorite things I made one for the challenge:
Die cuts: Creative Cuts and More, Stamps: The Rubber Cafe, Staples and Punch: EK Success, Ribbon: dollar Tree
I use a the 11 1/2″ mini-scallop die from Creative Cuts and More (they are updating their website right now so if it isn’t right there it should be soon) and I cut it in half to make my card, an idea I ripped off from the talented Melissa who always has the cutest shaped cards on the block.
Here is a close up, I got the funky texture on the card by pressing wax paper over the shimmer spray and putting a book on top as it was drying.
I embossed the flowery border stamp from The Rubber Cafe in light pink but it didn’t show up so I gave it a squirt of my red homemade shimmer spray to make it stand out. I punched out some flowers on the edge and glued the punch outs on the front of the card, BTW the card is made from Fairytale pink double mates cardstock do you can see the darker pink inside through the punch outs, it has a subtle texture to it but it stamps like a dream! Then I stamped and embossed a couple of Butterflies also from the rubber cafe and curled the wings a bit and adhered them with foam tape. I used my “hot glue pearls” for the center of the flowers and stapled on some ribbon. The little ribbon slide is from Creative Cuts too!
Thanks for stopping by and have a great Monday…the dog outside is howling…I’m still not letting him in even if he is sweet and cute…until next time happy crafting 😉
