Resolutions, eh?

Here we are, another year, 2013! I’m ready for a fresh year, how about you? I typically do not make resolutions but I find that during the craziness of Christmas prepping and the long lazy days (that my kids are off from school) afterward I come up with better ways to do things…for instance: jotting down and planning out art projects that I want to complete so that I do not forget that I want to try them OR forget that I have supplies to do certain projects…so…I give you my not-so-fancy-but-totally-usefull Craft Fair 2013 Planning book:

 craft_planning_book

It is a mini composition book covered with scraps of patterned paper, no biggie but it does the trick.

I just recently heard this quote by Harvey MacKay:

“If you fail to plan, then you plan to fail”

So true, I had never heard it before {it was relayed to me by my wise husband :D } but I loved it. Next year I will not have the stress-filled-November-panic that I experienced last year upon realizing that I had no inventory for my upcoming craft fair (thank goodness I can produce quickly!) or will I stand around in my craftroom staring blankly wondering what I want to work on today. Nope. Not again. And for those of you (and by you I mean me) who browse Pinterest for hours pinning away cool ideas and then immediately forgetting them never to gander at your boards again you can write the aforementioned ideas on honest-to-goodness paper and have a fair crack at remembering them for once…please say I am not alone here?

Also I do a craft-room clean up and I am happy to admit that it is almost done! My beads are sorted and put away, craft Christmas presents have been put away and I came up with a clever way to corral my yarn stash so I can actually see (and use) what I have…now that’s a concept! I am planning a new craftroom video since my last tour was done 3 years ago, I’ll try to get to it this week before I mess the place up again LOL!

So how about you, any resolutions this year? Go ahead and make a crafy resolution and you will have fun keeping it! Til next time happy crafting!

  1. Lindsey, thank you for the wonderful quote – It is now posted in a few places so I remember to do just that – plan ahead & execute- thanks for all of the wonderful videos, blog posts and ideas that you share with us.

  2. first off, Happy new year! may you be blessed with a thousand new creative, inventive, amazing ideas to share with us! Next; I Love the quote , I will have to paint that and hang on the wall, but the book idea I have tried but when I go back threw it I dont have the “great idea” light go off like it did when I jotted it down…just mass confusion, dont know how to organize thoughts I guess…maybe you can share your book along the way

  3. Happy New Year Lindsay! I’m in the process of reorganizing my craft room too. Its my annual re-do to accommodate all the new crafty presents. I have a hard time remembering what projects I wanted to get to but I’ve found writing them down only works against me. The projects move out of my mind since they are “safely” written down instead of nagging at my brain, inspiring me to go do them instead of adding them to a To-Do list. Once it goes on a list, it seems like work. My way isn’t any better though… I seem to accumulate products and half completed projects on my desk until their done or put away. Yah, not a great system! I just need more time… and maybe for my internet to go down occasionally!!!

  4. Planning in advance for craft fairs….I hear ya! Great idea for one book to put all your ideas in. I would jot ideas down here and there and everywhere and still be not organized with items to make. I think I’ll try your idea of a cool book to jot ideas down – one place not 20…lol. I’ll bet it’ll be the best thing for my sales next year!
    Thanks for the idea!

  5. I can only dream of having everything visible to know what I have…lucky you!
My STUDIO is the laundry room – LOL! It is well designed; however, a small room! I’m almost finished with my second best choice on finding things…everything by Category, Type/Mfg., A-Z and labeled.
PANTRY at one end of Studio: Stored in Snapware…Ink pads, Embossing Powders, Pens, Pencils, Glue Dots, etc.; Stored in Rubbermaid trays: Reinkers, Stickles, Liquid Pearls, Smooch, Sprays, Paints, Glues, etc. A Lazy Susan holds Misc. tools.
TOP of WASHER/DRYER: Vagabond, Big Shot, Cricut, and Grand Calibur; Next to washer a Tool Cabinet holding drawers with rhinestones by color and misc. projects…Copic case with the canvas baskets on top of tool cabinet.
GARAGE: Stamps are stored in 75-80 pizza boxes on shelving above book cases which hold projects, ribbons, misc. in plastic shoe boxes, and thin dies in snapware; storage cabinet for card stock by color, another for text weight paper, a smaller cabinet for envelopes, and Sizzix steel ruled dies; Punches in tall cabinet in drawers.
HALL CLOSET (11′ long x 12″ deep): Patterened paper by color in 12″ x 12″ stacked holders; 3 plastic boxes of embossing folders; Spellbinders dies in 2 zippered 3″ deep 3 ring binders inside plastic baseball/photo pages with magnetic strips, another binder for stencils and one for Sizzlits type dies. 6 12 x 12 cases for embellishments, etc.
All that to say…finding what I need is key, so I still need more organization!!!

    • sounds like a great system! Before I moved my stuff to the basement I stashed all my stuff in my closet, desk, under my bed and powder room! My husband was glad when I moved all of my craft-crap downstairs LOL!

  6. Thank you, in advance for all of your wonderful ideas. Here’s one for you — if you haven’t thought of it before, it may save you some time (like looking for the book that you are supposed to be writing everything down in!! I know — I can sit on a couch and loose several pairs of scissors without moving!!)

While you are going through “pininterest”, instead of writing down that lovely site and what you want to make, why not open up and send yourself an e-mail. copy and paste each and every site you visit and find something you want to make onto the e-mail. either send it to yourself (filing it in a “crafts to make” on your e-mail box) or save it in drafts and add to it everytime you see some thing you want to make.

    Hope this helps you!!

  7. I have to do a major craft clean up this year. I am spread out all over creation. I decided I would dedicate days to a specific project. Monday to OSA, Tuesday to the cookbook for my daughter in law whose birthday is this month, Wednesday to Stampin Up which I just took on, and Thursday and Friday haven’t been assigned as yet. I have notebooks for OSA challenges and layouts, and one for Stampin Up and piles of paper filled envelopes with various projects. I have an ongoing things to do list and remarkably got some of it done. You notice I didn’t leave room for housework.LOL I work that in around everything else.

    • yeah, don’t worry about the housework, you can spend all day cleaning and the next day it is a mess, it is always there and never stays done! I do a big tidy at the end of the day (after kids are home, before hubby gets home) and it works for me. On the other hand your card that you make will STAY done:) Happy to enable:)

      • Thanks the mess is all mine. I have one small dog and the kids are gone and no hubby comes home so I am the problem with the mess. I tidy and then can’t find anything I need craft wise.

  8. By the way I need to add do one of Lindsays painting projects. They are in a file on this computer

  9. I’m like Emilie, it’s just me and my 2 dogs, so the mess is mine!!! I have a generous craft room, filled to the brim with my papercrafting/mixed media stuff. My jewelry making supplies are very organized in my living room AND, my sewing center is set up at my kitchen table. That’s the JOY of living alone but then i have no one else to blame!!! Oh heck, I’ll blame the Domino delivery guy LOL!!! Happy New Year Lindsay and I look forward to a year of creative fun with you!!! Oops I just noticed a container of Lumiere paints in the kitchen with a not quite complete Christmas ornament ROFL…

    • the kitchen counter is loaded and the dining room table has the die cutting machines not to mention piles elsewhere. Good thing I’m not doing any heavy entertaining. LOL

  10. My husband always says to remember the 7 P’s
Prior Proper Planning Prevents Piss Poor Performance
    Good one huh?

  11. Great idea!
